  • “Ammolite” is the trade name referring to gems cut from fossilized ammonite, an extinct group of marine invertebrate.  Ammonites were creatures similar in appearance to a squid, which live a shell similar to that of the nautilus.  These shells grew to about 1 meter in diameter. Ammolite are gems cut from fossilized ammonite shells.
